The miracle in the text is the first of three miracles (4:35–5:43) which emphasize Mark’s proposition that Jesus is the Son of God (1:1). The stilling of the storm, the cleansing of the Gerasene demoniac, and the raising of Jairus’ daughter show that Jesus is Lord over nature, evil, and death. Do not doubt, but trust in God, who is the gracious Master and Ruler of all things.
